This is a debate that has been going on for many years. There are dog lovers and cat lovers. Trying to decide which is best for your family can be a challenge. Even though there are pros and cons with each.

Dogs are man’s best friend. They are companions for their humans in a way that most other animals aren’t. Most of them are very playful, always willing to cuddle, and very hug-able. These animals can be trained to behave in a way that you want them to.
The downside is that they do require frequent walks. Most do not enjoy being left alone at home all day. They need space to exercise or an owner that is willing to take them to parks for playtime. Some dog breeds may require vet visits more than others. Some may get quite large.
Overall, a dog is a good family pet, but it will take effort to ensure that they remain a good family pet. If you don’t take the time to housebreak them or teach them about manners, they may drive your family nuts. Are you willing to put forth the effort?

The cat is typically a great pet for families that may want a house pet. Cats are by default and personality very independent. They are known for needing you a lot less than you need them when it comes to cuddles. Most of them are content to sleep all day and may be a little standoffish about contact with humans. The other side of this is that cats can be a total joy to watch. They may pounce on bugs, chase lights, and even snuggle when they want to.
The downside is that cats will use indoor litter boxes. This can make a home smell less than great and it does require you to clean it out. They also like to climb and most cat owners have cat scratched furniture. There are natural instincts that cats have and not everyone will enjoy their “habits”.
A cat owner is typically the type of person that may work long hours. They may also be solitary people who want occasional cuddles.
